Frommer's Review
Widely regarded as one of the most elaborate brownstones ever built in the U.S., this mansion (also known as the Morse-Libby House) is a remarkable display of high Victorian style. Built between 1858 and 1863, the towering home is a prime example -- some say America's finest -- of the opulent Italianate style. It offers an engaging look at a bygone era. Inside, it appears not a square inch of wall space was left untouched by craftsmen or artisans; 11 painters were hired to create the murals. The most comprehensive tours are given the first and third Friday of each month from June to October; December is a particularly special time here, with a month of holiday events, decorations, and festivities.
