Frommer's Review
International flavors, a stylish dining room, superb local ingredients, and an unfailingly inventive kitchen make Spire a prime destination for business meals and special occasions. I've been recommending it all over town -- it's sophisticated but comfortable, sleek but romantic, something of a scene (especially in the bar) but exceptionally welcoming. I'd come here just for the incredible soups, from corn chowder at the height of its summer sweetness to rich pumpkin in the dead of winter. Main courses include creative sandwiches and salads at lunch, hearty portions of traditional yet unusual dishes (roasted duck breast with faro, pomegranate, spiced pecans, and chestnut-flower honey; spice-crusted skate wing with cucumber and mango) at dinner. Flowing fabrics and cushy upholstery soften the lines of the rather stark second-floor space, which overlooks the Old Granary Burying Ground. And the service is just the right combination of friendly, efficient, and unobtrusive.
