Frommer's Review

Almost as well known for its people-watching as for its cuisine, Garden of Eden sits on a busy corner on the South End's main drag. It's a good place to go for neighborhood gossip as well as tasty food served at communal tables (and on the patio in good weather). You can order everything from breakfast to cappuccino with a delectable pastry to a full meal. The unusual sandwiches on fresh-baked bread are especially popular -- chicken breast and Swiss cheese with cucumbers and Dijon vinaigrette on whole-wheat raisin-pecan sounds like too much, but it's just right; the namesake sandwich of mesclun, red onion, blue cheese, and (of course) apples on a baguette is equally satisfying. Dinner entrees are French country comfort food -- coq au vin, yummy macaroni and cheese, chicken potpie, and the like.
